I had this dream that me and a friend were making an AVGN style series on my old laptop, and it was about this game called “Zelda 4 for NES.” I remember the game was basically like Link’s Awakening on a cart, but with way more items and stuff. I remember that I wrote the captions and he was supposed to read them, because I was dysphoric about my voice. He never ended up reading them though, so I was kinda disappointed. I kept at this for a while, until suddenly, I was within my parents’ car along with my little sister. My mom then switched the station, and this foreign song with weirdly vulgar Japanese Pidgin lyrics about snorting crank and raising the roof started playing. My mom didn’t react as well to the weird lyrics, and she just exclaimed “hell yeah, I love this song!,” as she danced in her seat. Which confused me and my sister because she was normally quite straightlaced overall. My dad didn’t seem to care though, as he wordlessly drove us to Chili’s. I ended up really liking and loving the high song, even though it was a mix of polish/russian with the occasional burst of English or Japanese, so I couldn’t really understand much but the English or Japanese parts. I sat there for god knows how long, until suddenly, my dad parked the car and the song turned off. We then all went into the Chili’s and went to find a seat. Strangely, we picked a seat that already had some guy sitting there. He resembled Scruffy from Futurama mixed with that one sea captain from The Simpsons, he was dressed in pirate gear, and he didn’t talk much. My dad tried to talk to him to get him to move, but he wanted our company for some reason. After a while of chatting him up, we just sorta sat down at his table and started doing whatever. The waitress then came over and talked to my dad, to which he ordered appetizers for us. She then asked me what I wanted, to which I replied “a Bloody Mary and a coke please, love,” before I gestured to my sister. My sister then said “one large Hi-C Orange please.” The waitress then gestured to the gruff guy, to which he replied “argh… me usual grub, darlin’,” in a thick pirate accent. The waitress blushed, and said “I’ll have that for you right away, cutie,” before she then ducked into the back room to get our drinks. Weirdly enough, the rest of my family didn’t seem to notice the charm of pirate guy, except for my sister. She just invited him to play a game of Cherries and Stems with us, to which he agreed, grabbing some cherries from a nearby bowl. My sis then rolled a die, and said “your go first, Erin.” I then planted 5 cherries on the starting space, and moved forward about 7 spaces. I then decided to read up more on the rules of the game on Wikipedia, finding out that the game used a modified chutes and ladders board, along with a big dice and the rare card draw. The game also involved choosing to plant cherries on either the space you land on, or the space you begin your turn on. At which point, the person who circumnavigates the board and touches that space again rolls the cherry multiplier die, and they get the cherries you planted plus whatever the growth multiplier said. Also, some spaces had corn stalks, which could either delete your planted cherries due to being absorbed into the being of the corn, or turn the entire corn stalks into a jumbo cherry stalk which continually regrew. The goal of the game was to make it to 500/5000/50,000 cherries first, although there were house rules that simply chose the highest number after a set number of circumnavigations. I thought to myself, thinking “this game seems mostly luck based, but still fun,” As I watched my sister and the sea captain play their rounds. The game then came back to me, and I made my roll. Somehow, I managed to land on the sea captain’s space, to which I then rolled the multiplier and gained 300 cherries. Both of them stared at me in shock, as I went to plant 20 cherries back onto the board. Before I could though, the waitress came over and planted my bloody marry and our pretzel sticks on top of the board. I went to take a pretzel stick for myself, but the sea captain and my dad took all of them before I could eat them. Angry, I took my Bloody Mary and drank half of it in a single swig. I then felt an odd need to piss, so I went to get up and go to the bathroom, only to then wake up immediately in my bed. I awoke in a tired mood, feeling dehydrated and hungry. This dream left me feeling confused and a bit weirded out overall. Wasn’t scary or anything though, I’m just not sure what to make of it. FIN
Thank you for sharing your intricate dream! Let's break it down into various components for a thorough interpretation.
Your dream begins with you and a friend creating a series reminiscent of the Angry Video Game Nerd (AVGN) style. This symbolizes your desire for creative expression, especially in a playful or humorous manner. However, your discomfort with your voice and the disappointment of your friend not reading your captions suggest a struggle with vulnerability and self-presentation. You might be grappling with feelings about how you want to be perceived by others and your ability to convey your thoughts.
Transitioning from your creative endeavor to being in your parents' car introduces family dynamics. The unexpected enjoyment from your mother of the vulgar song reflects the complexities of family roles and how they can surprise us. Your mother, typically straightlaced, showing a carefree side might represent a longing for acceptance of different facets of one's personality within the family unit.
Your father’s indifferent demeanor could suggest feelings about authority figures in your life, perhaps relating to their expectations versus your own. The lack of reaction could hint at a desire for more engagement or understanding in family interactions.
The arrival of a gruff pirate-like character can represent an unorthodox or adventurous aspect of your personality. Pirates are often emblematic of freedom, rebellion, and charm, which could suggest a longing for more spontaneity or fun in your life. The connection your sister and the pirate figure have might indicate the importance of companionship and shared experiences, especially during mundane moments like dining out.
The introduction of the game with a complex set of rules symbolizes the intricacies of life and relationships. The luck-based nature of the game signifies how much of life feels beyond our control, and yet, it can also be fun and engaging, reflecting your attitude towards chance and circumstance. The cherries can symbolize potential rewards or successes in your life, indicating that you are navigating growth and perhaps frustration in achieving your goals.
Your anger at not being able to have a pretzel stick and the subsequent indulgence in the Bloody Mary communicates a feeling of deprivation — not just of food, but also potentially of attention, affection, or recognition from those around you. The need to take a moment for yourself, as indicated by your desire to go to the restroom, signifies the need for personal space and self-care amidst social dynamics.
Waking up feeling dehydrated and hungry points towards the physical reality lingering from your dream — perhaps underscoring how unmet needs, whether emotional or physical, can leave you feeling disoriented or unsatisfied. The overall feeling of confusion could represent an exploration of your identity and personal connections, especially concerning how you express yourself to others versus how you might feel inside.
Overall, this dream seems to express a rich tapestry of creativity, family dynamics, personal enjoyment, and the journey of self-identity. Embrace the complexities of these themes as they might lead you to discover deeper elements about yourself and your interactions with the world around you. Reflect on these aspects to gain clarity in your waking life.
